If you want to lower the electric bill, you can start by turning off your computer when it's not in use. Most modern PC Power Supplies can use around 300 kW of electricity.

You can also change your lightbulbs to more efficient models or bulbs that use less energy.

I've gone "green" in my whole house.
I purchased those spiral light bulbs, the ones that last 5 yrs….each is 15 watts which is equivalent to 60 watts regular bulbs.
I've seen a decrease of about 30% in a year that I've used them.

*Try plugging out your charger after your finish charging you phones, iPods, games etc… it is said that even though your not using the charger, it still charges if its still plugged in. (you'll save allot of engergy that way, plus it will be help the environment)

a good freezer is 20 unless its opened alot
electic stove is about 3 to 8 bucks an hour to use

change out all your light from ac to dc… put in a couple deep cell 12v batteries with a solar recharger..
you would save an average 30 a month
would pay for itself in less then 5 months

Electric stove can go over 300kWh and also Heater. Try for instant when you what to boil water use a electric cattle instate of a stove. always switch of equipment that are not in use .i.e Light, PC, TV if no one is watching and etc.

A computer draws maybe 250 watts; over a year, that's 2000 kWh, worth about $250. Possible other big draws:
- Electric clothes dryer.
- Electric cooking range.
- Electric heat. If you have this, it's a biggie.
- Electric hot water heater.
Replacing incandescent light bulbs with fluorescent lamps will help.

Turn off every applicance in your house that you arent using.
Only use the bare minimum of lighting.
Harden up and turn off your heaters whenever possible.
Cut down on hot water usage.
If your fridge is bigger than you actually need, get a littler one, if you cant get by with a smaller one, get a more energy efficent one - that is if it costs less than the power it uses.

Cook extremely fast (not so fast you get food poisoning though), dont use the warming drawer. Avoid baking.

Cold wash whenever possible.

And if your a geek with a gazillion computers like me……turn them the hell off, or at least some of them, and use the smallest power supplies possible. CRTs are also complete bastards power wise.

kWh is an accumulation of power consumed. eg a 100w light that runs for 10 hours consumed 1kWh.
