A number of individuals have created a wind turbine during a weekend project and then made several more during several other weekend projects. By building just three wind turbines, on person was able to eliminate their power bill altogether.

The real test of whether building a wind turbine is practical is “do you have a wind resource?” Is the wind where you live greater than 8 miles per hour on average? If it is, you can benefit from a home built wind turbine.

There are a number of information packets on the market that are useful. It is possible to find the information searching through the net, but a buying a packet will save you time.

The basic components of a home-built turbine are the mounting pole, the generator, the turbine, and the power inverter. By locating these components yourself and spending a few hours on a project to put them together, you can produce a turbine for about $200.

So, how much energy will you need to produce to make a wind turbine project pay off? Well, electrical energy on average is about 10 cents per kilowatt hour. So, you will need to produce 2000 kilowatt hours in order to pay for your expense of building the turbine. There are 8760 hours in a year. So, your turbine will need to produce about .25 kilowatts on average to pay for itself in a year. This is not unreasonable to expect, if you live in a windy area (10 to 15 miles per hour average wind speed). After that first year, everything will be pure profit. By constructing several wind turbines, you can eliminate your power bill permanently.

Energy cost today has reached an all time high. More and more people have started to feel the burden of this high energy cost. These conditions have forced a lot of people to look for a better alternative solution.

1. Wind Power as an Alternative Energy

One of those alternative solutions is to use wind power. Not only cheap, but wind power also can provide an unlimited amount of energy. To take advantage of this wind power all you need is just to build a turbine. This wind turbine then will be used to convert wind into electricity for your home.

2. You Can Buy One or Build It Yourself

To create wind turbine, you can either buy one or build it yourself. If you buy commercial wind turbine, it can cost you $2,000 or even more, compare that with building the wind turbine yourself. If you decide to build the wind turbine yourself, you only need to spend around $200. You can save almost $1.800!

3. The Benefits of Wind Power

Even though wind power will not supply all of your households’ energy needs, but it can provide as much as 50% energy or even more for your household. Also using wind power can reduce the level of pollution considerably.

To build the wind turbine yourself all you need is just the right guide to lead you through the process. There are so many guides on internet promising to teach you how to build the wind turbine yourself. But almost all of them fail to deliver their promises.

Some of them are simply a load of rubbish, full of unnecessary technical jargon that will leave you confused for days. Therefore, you should choose carefully the right guide that can really help you building the wind turbine yourself, such as Earth4Energy

Atul Tanna writes about energy and has equally knowledgeable guest authors also writing on the subject in the regularly updated blog called Cheap Alternative Energy. This thriving and popular blog is where you’ll also find Alternative Sources of Renewable Energy and benefits arising therefrom. You must visit http://cheap-alternative-energy.com and download the Earth4Energy guide to leave you with considerable funds in your hands by way of savings.

With increasing energy prices and individuals desiring to be more independent, wind energy is looking more and more attractive. Many people are turning to wind turbine manufacturers to purchase a wind turbine for their power needs. But what are the downsides in such a purchase?

The main downside of purchasing from a “mainstream” manufacturer is cost. A 1 KW turbine may run you four or five thousand dollars and you will likely need several of them to power your home. For most people, these turbines will never pay for themselves. In other words, it will be cheaper to get your power from the power company. You are not going to save money by using a wind turbine.

Buying a high-tech wind turbine from a large turbine manufacturer is only profitable if you live in an ideal location for wind energy. If you live in a coastal region or near mountains, then buying a turbine may really pay for itself and make you money. But for the rest of us, buying a turbine from a manufacturer is a losing proposition.

The other option, outside of buying your turbine from a manufacturer is building your own. This is not as difficult as it sounds. Wind turbines aren’t particularly complicated. And with a little instruction, the “average person” can build a turbine even if they are inexperienced in this area.

The advantage of building your own turbine is reduced cost. Reduced cost means a higher return on your investment. It is possible to build a “serious” wind turbine for about $200. With several of these, some individuals have been able to do away with their electric bill altogether.

A wind turbine is basically a machine which catches the wind, and because of the flow of wind around it’s blades which makes it rotate. The kinetic energy from the rotating turbine is then converted to mechanical energy because of the rotating turbine, and could then be converted into electrical energy. This is a very useful to create energy from a clean resource, and is very easy to build to be used for a single household or small building.

Basically there are two types of wind turbines, a horizontal axis turbine and a vertical axis turbine. The horizontal axis turbines are the more commonly used type of wind turbines. Its design is the blade and rotor is placed on top of a tower. Bigger turbines are usually pointed by a wind sensor coupled with a servo machine to point the blade in the proper direction.

The vertical axis turbine on the other hand has the main rotor shaft arranged vertically which makes it effective even if the turbine is not directed into the wind, unlike the horizontal axis turbine. This is a better design for areas where wind direction can change from time to time. This design also allows the gearbox and generator to be placed on the ground, thus maintenance is a lot easier. This design however, will limit the speed of the blade because it generates more torque and drag, thus producing lesser energy.

Wind power is one of the safest and cleanest energy sources we have, and designing a proper wind turbine generator for your own use is not only practical, but is also an environment friendly solution to your power needs.

I would suggest to get a complete step-by-step guide to help you designing your wind turbine Generator and also building your own wind turbine with less than 200$. Best guides reviewed.

When considering whether to purchase a wind turbine, the first thing to look at is, do you have wind resources available where you live. If you there is little wind at your property to start with, there is little reason to start on the path of investigating a wind turbine.

Usually an average wind speed of 8 miles per hour is a starting point for making wind power practical. If the average wind speed is below 8, wind power is not practical. Take a look at a wind map of the United States and check the average wind velocity of your region. For most specific information, find data from a local weather station. Try Googling the name of your town and then include the phrase “weather data.” You should be able to find things like average wind velocity, average wind direction, precipitation etc.

Another large consideration in deciding whether a turbine is practical for the average wind velocity where you live is, how much will the turbine cost. Many 1 KW turbines cost four or five thousand dollars and it may take several to power your home. If you have fifteen thousand dollars tied up in wind turbines, you will need considerable “back-yard” wind resources to break even. Because of the prohibitive cost of a brand new wind turbine, many ingenuitive home owners have decided to build their own turbine.

The advantage of building your own turbine is drastically reduced cost. A home-built turbine can be constructed for as little as $200. A number of individuals have been able to power their entire home by constructing several of these turbines over a weekend or two.

A wind turbine generator is one of the best and safest utility sources there is. It is a type of solar energy, meaning it is pollution free and wind is free. A wind turbine generator is an appliance which would convert kinetic energy from the wind by catching it with its first part, the blades, into mechanical energy by the spinning shaft and then, this is converted by a generator into electrical energy for consumption. So, there are three basic parts of a wind turbine, the blades, the shaft and the generator.

The first step in assembling the generator is to attach the generator to the pole. You slide the Yaw pole into the Yaw shaft of the head assembly then you secure this with M8/15 bolts with flat washers. Next, you assemble the wind turbine rotor hub by attaching the hub to the generator with screws. Make sure the screws are tight. Then, you attach the blades to the wind generator. Install the blades to the hub with screws. Next, attach the nose cone to finish the installation of the wind generator. Last step is to erect the pole by using a steel pipe.

Find a perfect spot for your wind turbine generator and put up the pole with the turbine on top, secure the pole into the ground with wires to prevent it from falling. Then, that’s it. You have assembled your wind turbine. Just remember, before purchasing or making your own wind turbine generator, you must do your homework. Research on wind patterns in your location and check for laws and approvals needed for putting up a wind turbine, this way you can make sure that your investment would pay off and not become just another problem.

I would suggest to get a guide to help you assembling a premade wind turbine and even building your own. Best guides reviewed. Using the #1 guide you will be able to build and install a wind turbine with less than 200$.

When choosing a home wind turbine, you have two basic options - a vertical axis turbine or a horizontal axis turbine. By and large the horizontal axis turbine is most popular. These are the giant windmills you see plastered on the foot hills of the Sierra Nevada.

However, the vertical axis windmill has some advantages that may be best for your property. The primary benefit of the vertical axis variety is that it does not “see” wind direction. The vertical windmill keeps the same orientation, no matter what the wind direction. So, if the wind shifts rapidly or is very “turbulent” then a vertical axis turbine may be the way to go. A vertical wind generator also has the generator box located closer to the ground, so it is easier to maintain.

One downside to vertical wind generator is that they tend to be noisier. Vertical wind generators are more subject to vibrations along the axis or the turbine. This is not the case with horizontal turbines.

The horizontal axis windmill tends to be more efficient than the vertical wind generator. However, a horizontal wind-mill needs a steady wind to be efficient. If the wind changes, directions, the horizontal wind mill needs some “recover time” to reorient itself into the wind.

One downside to the horizontal axis turbine is that it is hazardous to birds. The blades can be spinning fast enough to cut a bird in two. Vertical axis wind mills are safer for birds, because they cover a narrower area and have a lower rotational velocity.
